HYBRIT will replace coal, needed for the steel industry, with hydrogen. The result is the world's first fossil-free steel production technology, with negligible CO<sub>2<\/sub>-footprint<\/strong>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Last year, the first pile was driven for the expansion of the SSAB plant in Lulea for the world's first-ever plant set up for fossil-free steel production. EUR 130 million (SEK 1.4 billion) is involved in building the plant and developing the new production method. The start-up phase will last until 2025, after which the technology will be rolled out at the current production facilities in Oxel\u00f6sund, Sweden. After that, HARDOX will be the world's first high-strength steel produced entirely without fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geha-laverman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/HYBRIT_TEKNIK_grafik.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"861\" height=\"749\"><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Most durable steel in the world<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The steel industry, around the world, is a huge energy consumer. With CO<sub>2<\/sub>-emissions as one of the main causes of global warming, this industry is rightly concerned.
